Jamshedpur, August 22: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) organized an online Zoom meeting with Jharkhand’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Gupta to discuss various law and order, traffic, and other issues affecting the Kolhan region’s three districts.
The meeting was initiated by SCCI President Vijay Anand Moonka, who welcomed all participants and thanked DGP Anurag Gupta for his time. Moonka highlighted that the SCCI, the oldest and only registered business organization in Kolhan, not only addressed business-related concerns but also took responsibility for resolving public issues in Jamshedpur and the broader Kolhan region. He stressed the need for enhanced policing, especially in Jamshedpur, due to the city’s diverse population and economic activity.

During the meeting, business representatives from Kolhan’s three districts raised various issues. The problems emanating from Jamshedpur included anti-social activities and encroachment near Bistupur parking area and Sakchi Mango Garden, increased incidents of theft, extortion, and cybercrime in the city, delays in issuing arms licenses to businessmen thereby creating a sense of insecurity, traffic congestion, particularly on Mango Bridge due to roadside encroachment by vendors and theft of goods from trucks on Marine Drive and other locations.
Law and order problems that had become a bane for the people in Adityapur were also put forward during the meeting and included rising incidents of theft in Adityapur and Gamharia, extortion and criminal activities in Satbohini-Dobo and around local liquor shops, the need for improved parking facilities for large commercial vehicles at key locations, establishment of a T.O.P. (Temporary Outpost) in the Auto Cluster industrial area and enhanced police patrolling in Phase-6 of the industrial area.
The persistent problems that needed sorting out in Chaibasa were pointed out and these comprised increased sale of illegal drugs such as charas and ganja and rising cybercrime incidents.
Ills prevailing in Ghatshila that were pointed out were lack of a local facility for paying vehicle challans, forcing residents to travel to Jamshedpur and rising incidents of theft.
The Chandil issues that were brought up in the meeting were serious traffic problems and the urgent need for traffic police in Chandil market and illegal lottery operations in Chandil-Chowka.
In response, DGP Anurag Gupta assured that necessary actions would be taken to address the law and order situation in Chaibasa, Ghatshila, and Chandil. He also emphasized the importance of using self-defense tools and improving traffic management to prevent accidents and congestion.
