Ranchi: Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department has taken a major step to strengthen the state’s healthcare system for the financial year 2026-27, approving a total of ₹163.67 crore for the development of 500-bed hospitals and medical colleges in Bokaro, Jamshedpur, and Dumka.
According to an order issued by Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, the funds have been allocated district-wise. Bokaro has received ₹100 crore for the construction of a 500-bed medical college and hospital building. In Jamshedpur, ₹50 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a new 500-bed hospital building at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Sakchi. Dumka Medical College has been allocated ₹13.67 crore for the construction of a 500-bed hospital facility.
The funds will not only be used for new construction but also for renovation, infrastructure strengthening, procurement of machinery, equipment, furniture, and computers in these institutions.
To ensure smooth execution, the Civil Surgeon of Ranchi has been designated as the drawing and disbursing officer. The department has also made provisions for third-party quality evaluation to ensure construction standards, along with online monitoring and regular inspections to track progress of the projects.
Officials said the initiative aims to significantly improve healthcare infrastructure and expand advanced medical services across the state.
