Jamshedpur, May 26: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy inspected the public distribution system (PDS) shops in Birsanagar, Vidyapatinagar, Bagunnagar and Bhuiyandih Lalbhatta.

During the visit, Roy was informed by several ration card holders that the server of rationing department was often very slow and that they are made to give their thumb impression on the e-PoS machine five times to get ration. The beneficiaries have to stand in queue for hours as it takes around 30 minutes for each beneficiary to get ration through such a tedious process. They said one full day is lost in taking ration from the PDS shops, which deprives them of one day’s wage due to absence from work.

Roy verified the allegations of beneficiaries and found them to be true. He spoke to the Secretary of Food and Supplies Department, Himani Pande, and sought prompt measures to resolve beneficiaries’ issues. He suggested that the beneficiaries should be asked to give their thumb impression only twice for taking ration. He said the Secretary had assured to convene a meeting on the issues raised by him and resolve them as soon as possible.
