Jamshedpur, Feb 19: From now onwards the mobile tigers — the cops on bike — will be serving under police stations in the steel city.
Aimed at bringing the falling law and order situation to shape, the district police has decentralised the posting of mobile tigers with greater responsibility.
Revealing about the decentralisation of the mobile tigers — an effective wing of the district polce for crime control, a senior official said that they have decided to deploy these cops-on-bike at police station level so that they would be under direct control of the officers–in-charge of any police station.
“But while confining the mobiles to the jurisdiction of a police station, we have also assigned them to keep work more effectively in controlling the crime. From now onward a mobile tiger will be held accountable if any crime is reported from that place in one’s jurisdiction,” said the senior officer.
He said that there are 44 mobile tigers unit and they are being deployed in various police stations areas in accordance with the importance of the police stations.
“When police stations like Bistupur and Sakchi are being provided with six mobile tigers each, the police stations like Golmuri, Jugsalai, Sonari, Kadma and Telco are being provided with five mobile tigers. There are several other police stations, where lesser number of mobile tigers will be deployed,” said the senior police officer.
He said some of these cops will also be deployed on the NH-33 and also in some police stations in the rural areas of the district.

He said they decentralised the mobile tigers unit as it would take comparatively much time for acting effectively on the information of any crime at place.
A mobile tiger unit used to have directive from the in-charge of police control room for reaching any place, but the same instruction will be given by an officer-in-charge instead.
A mobile tiger unit has two cops on a sports bike. Equipped with sophisticated fire-arms, wireless set, becon lights, the tiger mobile are supposed to reach at any scene of crime with alacrity. They are trained to handle crimes committed on the streets, market place or any other public place.
While elaborating on the decentralisation of the mobile tigers, Lakra said that after getting posted in the police stations, they expect that the crimes like loot, chain-snatching, eve-teasing and drunk-driving will considerably subsided.
“The mobile tigers will have to keep a good co-ordination between the fellow cops over wireless and also with the officer-in-charge of their respective police stations and will have to swing into action fast. When they would succeed to nab some of the criminals at the scene of crime, the morale of the offenders will automatically fall and the city will be relieved of such crimes,” said the senior police officer.
Notably, of late there has been a spurt in the crime of loot, snatching and drunk-driving at the steel city. The people, especially the women and girls are not safe as the criminals and other miscreants have a free run committing loot and snatching with impunity.
