Jamshedpur : In a nail biting finish, Gurmukh Singh Mukhe, former president of Mango Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee was crowned president of Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee( CGPC) after he defeated his arch rival Harminder Singh Mindi by mere two votes.
The voting for the coveted post was held at Guru Teg Bahadur Memorial Hall on Sunday. The first vote was casted by Nanak Singh of Tinplate.
Under strict police vigil 150 officials of different Gurudwara prabandhak committees exercise their franchise. The entire process took place in five hours. After secret ballot, Mukhe received 76 votes while Mindi ended up at 74 vote.
The election of Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee had snowballed into a controversy as the group led by Harnek Singh had disqualified Mukhe’s candidature of president and elected Mindi as unopposed president.
However, Mukhe staged protest and forced the district administration to interfere and declared the appointment as null and void.
SDO Madhavi Mishra took over the control of CGPC election and declared fresh election.The election took place under strict police vigil.
