Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 31 development projects worth Rs 426.71 crore in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar on Saturday. The initiatives aim to transform the region into a global tourism hub.
The event coincided with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Modi paid floral tributes to the iconic leader at the Statue of Unity.
Modi inaugurated 23 completed projects worth Rs 307.83 crore during the program. He also laid foundation stones for eight new projects valued at Rs 118.88 crore.
Key tourism additions include a Rs 50-crore IRCTC hotel, the Rs 16-crore Ekta Cruise, a Rain Forest attraction, and an Eco Trail. Travelators were added to improve visitor movement.
Civic infrastructure received a significant boost with new water and sewage treatment plants. Officials also constructed CISF barracks, staff quarters, terminal buildings, and upgraded several public roads.
Beautification initiatives enhanced greenery using Geocell technology on high-level bridges. Upgraded lighting, interactive gardens, and electric buses further elevate visitor experience within the Statue of Unity campus.
The foundation projects include the Rs 59.32-crore Gora-Bhanadra Road and a Smart Zero Waste solid waste management plant. Engineers will also build a disaster control room for emergency management.
These development works support the state government’s goal to strengthen overall tourism around the world’s tallest statue. The site continues to draw thousands of global travelers daily.
Modi later attended the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade featuring Central Armed Police Forces. He also scheduled visits to the Rain Forest and Vaman Vriksha Vatika during his trip.
