Jamshedpur, March 13: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato on Monday raised the issue of Indian Copper Complex (ICC) Ghatshila in Lok Sabha.
Mahto said in the Lok Sabha that Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) Indian Copper Complex (ICC) located in Ghatshila block (Maubhandar) under East Singhbhum district is a plant established in the year 1932. The said plant is lying closed for the last three years because the production work is done in the ICC plant from copper concentrate ore supplied by HCL’s own Malajkhand unit. Unfortunately, HCL has been selling copper concentrate ore directly in the market for a long time, not supplying it to the ICC unit. ICC smelter is closed due to shortage of concentrated ore.
It appears that the HCL management is planning to sell the plant, due to which there is a lot of resentment among the residents, working laborers and workers around the said area. In the midst of the Covid epidemic, thousands of laborers in the unorganized sector have become unemployed for the last one and a half years.
Along with this, Rakha Copper and Chapri Mines located in Musabani block area under East Singhbhum district are lying closed for the last two decades. They have been trying for a long time to get these mines operational. He also informed that erstwhile chief minister Raghubar Das had tried to start the mines. Bhoomi Pujan was also done in February 2019 by the company management of the said mines. In which the then Chief Minister Raghubar Das and all the senior office bearers of the company were present. But HCL management has not completed the process of tender to open the mines even after two and a half years, due to which the situation remains the same.
He demanded that the production of Hindustan Copper Limited Indian Copper Complex located in Ghatshila Block under East Singhbhum District and Rakha Copper and Chapri mines of Musabani block should be started immediately.
