Jamshedpur migrant labourers return from Telangana, 17 put to home quarantine

Jamshedpur, May 2: Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration has put the migrant labourers in home quarantine after they returned from Telangana.

Of the over 1,100 migrant labourers who returned in a special train from Telangana to Jharkhand on Friday night, 17 were residents of various villages in Seraikela-Kharsawan district adjoining Jamshedpur.

On Saturday morning, all the 17 workers were subjected to a mandatory medical checkup by the district health department at Seraikela.  Though six of the returnees had complaints of sneezing and fever, all the 17 were asked to remain in home quarantine for the next 14 days.

Seraikela-Kharsawan district civil surgeon, Himanshu Bhushan Barbhar confirmed that they have sent 17 migrant labourers for home quarantine after they were subjected to the medical check-up.

” We observed the labourers who returned from Telangana.Of the 17 returnees, 11 were absolutely fine, but six of them were found having fever and complaint of sneezing.  We will take swab samples of these six suspects for getting them examined in the MGM Medical College shortly.  But we have asked all the 17 to remain in home quarantine. We will also keep a vigil on those returned so that they do not develop some symptoms,” said the civil surgeon.

Barbhar, when asked, said the district administration has set up quarantine centres at Saraikela itself and but they expect hundreds of migrant labours to return to the district within the next few days and many of them may be in need of getting accommodated in the quarantine centres, they are keeping the centres unoccupied.

” We want to be prepared for any such emergency situation. The six returnees with symptoms of coronavirus will be kept the home quarantine under the observation of Sahiya (woman health worker).  If any of them is tested positive, then we will decide what to do with such patients.  But as of now there is no risk in keeping them in home quarantine,” said the civil surgeon.

We do not have community spread now, and when it happens, it will be a huge challenge. People should avoid travel for two weeks, and this is important to prevent community transmission. We are ready to manage any situation. We have isolation wards in medical college hospitals and quarantine facilities, an official said.
