Chaibasa: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) West Singhbhum district unit organized a felicitation ceremony on Sunday to honour the newly elected council chairpersons and members supported by the party in the Chaibasa and Chakradharpur municipal elections. This victory marks a significant shift in urban politics for the party, which has traditionally seen stronger support in rural belts.
Urban Voters Voice Confidence in Hemant Soren

During the event, newly elected Chakradharpur Municipal Council Chairman Sunny Oraon highlighted the historical significance of this win. He noted that while JMM-supported candidates previously struggled to secure high vote shares in urban municipal polls, the voters have now placed their unequivocal trust in the leadership and policies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Oraon expressed confidence that this momentum would carry forward into the upcoming Asan Panchayat elections, which the party plans to contest with full organizational strength.
Nitin Prakash, the newly elected Chairman of the Chaibasa Municipal Council, assured the public that urban development remains his top priority. Following recent discussions with Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Ranchi, Prakash confirmed that the state government has pledged full support for infrastructure projects in both towns. He identified sanitation, electricity, water supply, and healthcare as the core pillars of his developmental agenda for Chaibasa, stating that the JMM district committee will provide comprehensive cooperation to resolve these fundamental issues.
A Unified Push for Rapid Development
Laxmi Suren, the West Singhbhum Zila Parishad Chairperson and JMM Mahila Morcha President, congratulated the workers and the public for the victories of Nitin Prakash and Sunny Oraon. She remarked that development in these two towns would now accelerate, backed by the combined strength of the JMM organization and the Chief Minister.
District President Sonaram Devgam extended his gratitude to key leaders, including Minister Deepak Birua, MP Joba Majhi, and MLAs Niral Purti, Sukhram Oraon, and Jagat Majhi, for their roles in the campaign. Devgam emphasized that under Hemant Soren’s leadership, the JMM has successfully carved a place in the hearts of urban voters. He viewed the election results as a public endorsement of the state government’s welfare schemes and resident-centric policies.
Organizational Review and Tributes
The felicitation ceremony also served as a platform for the party to review the recent municipal election performance and discuss the BL-2 (Booth Level) organizational structure. The event saw a massive turnout of district and block-level leaders, including District Secretary Rahul Aditya, Spokesperson Budhram Laguri, and several executive members from various party wings.
The ceremony concluded on a solemn note as the members observed a one-minute silence to pay tribute to JMM workers who recently passed away, expressing deep condolences to their grieving families.
