Jamshedpur, March 27: The court of Additional District Judge (ADJ-II) Abhash Verma of Jamshedpur Court here on Monday sentenced one Abhijit Mandal alias Kandi to five years rigorous imprisonment under section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC. It has also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. In case of non-payment of fine, he has been ordered to undergo additional imprisonment for six months while Sachin Kumar, another accused in the case, was acquitted on Saturday last due to lack of evidence.
A total of six people have testified before the court in this case. Accused Abhijeet is lodged in jail. He had allegedly assaulted one Amar Sharma, a resident of Hume Pipe area in Kalyan Nagar under Sitaramdera PS, was attacked with a knife and seriously injured. Amar Sharma said he had gone to Murgapada on the evening of 13 September 2021. Due to an old dispute, Abhijeet had seriously injured him by stabbing him in the throat.
The local people caught Abhijeet on the spot and handed him over to the police. The court sentenced Abhijeet to two years under section 324 and one year under section 323 of IPC. The court said in its decision that all the sentences will run concurrently.
