Jamshedpur, June 20: Main roads and public spots wore a deserted look on Sunday as the residents stayed indoors in compliance with the complete lockdown imposed by the State government.
The government has imposed a complete lockdown on Sundays, in the wake of rising COVID-19 positive cases in the second wave of the pandemic. This was the second such complete lockdown. All commercial establishments, markets, and shops were closed.
But, essential services like supply of milk, distribution of newspapers, operation of ambulances, and other allied medical support were allowed to operate during the complete lockdown. Police personnel were deployed in all major spots and junctions to restrict the public movement. The police permitted movement of vehicles for medical reasons.
DC Suraj Kumar said that the residents largely complied with the norms and stayed indoors on Sunday. SSP M Tamil Vanan said: “ We appeal to the public not to come out of their homes unnecessarily and not to move on the roads without any reason.” Police said movement was allowed only in case of a medical emergency.
Meanwhile, traffic police jointly with city police could be seen vigilant at most of the commercial hubs seeking information from two-wheelers and four-wheelers about their reason for coming on the road.
“ In order to spread awareness we have undertaken public announcement at market areas for staying at home during lockdown and it seems to have significant effect as people in general have stayed indoors,” said an official. However people are seen roaming on roads without following orders.
The administration has made it mandatory for everyone to wear masks (either three-layered or made of cloth) if they are outside their homes. And those violating this rule are being booked by the police.
An official informed that if anyone found roaming without a mask will be booked under section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC.
“We have decided to file FIRs on people coming out without a proper mask. Even the Union Government has made masks for every citizen. On Sunday we warned several persons who were found without masks. They were going to buy essential commodities but not wearing mask in the Sakchi area. We have warned them that the police will register FIRs against them for offence under section 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code”, said the police official.
