Jamshedpur, June 2: Land crunch in Adityapur Industrial Area, is posing a major hurdle for the growth of the State’s largest industry hub. Around 500 applications for industrial projects are pending.

Scarcity of land to set up industries at Adityapur, has left the Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority, seeking a total of around 2,923 acres of developed land at three places in the Kolhan region.

In a recent meeting the officials dwelled at length on ways to resolve the crisis to allow more industries to come up in the hub. Such has been the demand for land in JIADA that around 500 applications for industrial projects have been pending with it for some years now awaiting allotment of land.

Of the total 2,923 acre JIADA is now looking forward to for its expansion, around 2,076 acres comprising six villages falls in nearby Gamharia while another 226 acres is located a little further away at Seraikela, another piece of around 621 acres of land is at Baharagora adjacent to East Singhbhum.

The Authority has as its jurisdiction the entire Kolhan region comprising the erstwhile Singhbhum district now trifurcated into Seraikela-Kharswan, West Singhbhum and East Singhbhum districts.

JIADA officials said that of the total land at three places, around 409 acres in Gamharia, 171 acres in Seraikela and 250 acres in Baharagora was government land which was expected to be transferred to JIADA first as inter-departmental action.

“The divisional commissioner is the competent authority to get the (government) land transferred from one government authority to the other, in this case it will be land coming free-of-cost to JIADA,” informed JIADA officials.

It may be noted that the sprawling Adityapur Industrial Area houses over 1200 units- including 11 large-scale, 64 small scale and 166 tiny industries. A few important industries that have global presence are Usha Martin Group, RSB Group, Tata Steel Growth Shop(TGS) etc., too situated in this industrial belt, situated in Seraikela-Kharsawan. There are 20 industries, which export their products to the USA, Australia and other European countries.

Facing space crunch, the Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority, over the years has acquired around 2,200 acre of private land near the Sitarampur dam at the Gamharia end of the existing JIADA phase-I. All of the 3,000 acre under JIADA phase-I was allotted to around 500 medium and small industrial units. To satisfy its immediate needs, the authority is seeking more land.

However, JIADA which would have to put up infrastructure, including roads, says it would be able to allot land to industry at comparable prices which it till recently had been doing in phase-I.
