Jamshedpur: Jharkhand cricketer Ashwani Kumari prepares to hit the ground running for upcoming season

Jamshedpur, Sep 26: The Jharkhand Senior Women’s Cricket Team is currently undergoing an intensive training camp at Keenan Stadium, with star cricketer Ashwani Kumari actively participating. As the team prepares for the upcoming domestic season, Ashwini is fully dedicated to enhancing her skills, focusing on fitness, batting, bowling, and fielding.

In an interview, Ashwani expressed her commitment, stating, “My full focus is on the upcoming season. That is why I am following every instruction of the coach.” Notably, Ashwani Kumari is the only female cricketer from Jharkhand to have played in the Women’s IPL, having represented both the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat team. Reflecting on her IPL experience, she shared, “Playing on such a big stage allowed me to learn and understand a lot about the game.” She also mentioned her friendship with Jemima Rodrigues from the Delhi team, highlighting the learning opportunities they share.

Ashwani advocates for equal opportunities for all children in sports, emphasizing that parents should believe in their children, regardless of gender. “Every parent should give equal opportunity to their child (boy or girl) and trust that they can achieve great things,” she asserted. With the establishment of the Women’s IPL, she believes that young girls now have ample chances to showcase their talent.

The training camp, organized by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, includes 24 talented women cricketers from across the state. In addition to skill training, the camp incorporates strength training, and participants will engage in three trial matches. Following these matches, the final Jharkhand team will be announced to compete in the Senior Women’s T-20 Cricket Tournament scheduled for October 17 in Surat. Rajkumar Yadav from Jamshedpur is leading the camp as the head coach, supported by coaches Prakash Munda and Kavita Rai, contributing to the comprehensive preparation of the team.
