Tata Motors Jamshedpur Plant Announces 7-Day Closure From May 29

Jamshedpur: Keeping in view current commercial requirements and market dynamics, automobile major Tata Motors has decided to halt operations at its Jamshedpur plant for seven consecutive days.

The company will implement a three-day compulsory leave (compensatory leave) alongside a three-day block closure across all divisions and departments, including general offices. Coupled with the standard weekly Sunday holiday, the entire plant will remain closed from May 29 to June 4. Management issued two separate official circulars on Wednesday detailing the framework.

First Circular: Three-Day Compulsory Off

According to the first notification, the company is granting employees compensatory leave in lieu of duties performed on previous weekly off days. Management has mapped the schedule as follows:

• May 29: Compensatory off for working on Sunday, March 15.
• May 30: Compensatory off for working on Sunday, March 29.
• May 31: Normal weekly off (Sunday).
• June 1: Compensatory off for working on Sunday, April 19.

However, the Foundry Division will operate normally on May 29 and May 30 since this specific leave structure does not apply to them. Management has directed that employees called to duty on May 29 or May 30 must avail of their compensatory leave by May 31. Similarly, staff members working on June 1 must utilize their corresponding leave by June 30.

Second Circular: Block Closure from June 2 to June 4

The second circular mandates a three-day block closure from June 2 to June 4, acting under the provisions of the agreement signed between management and the union on March 19.

This block closure will directly affect employee salaries and leave balances. Under the established rules, impacted workers must utilize their Privilege Leave (PL) or Casual Leave (CL) to cover 50 percent of the closure period. The company will provide normal salaries to the workforce for the remaining 50 percent of the duration.
