Jamshedpur: In a proactive effort to prioritize mental health and raise awareness about stress management and suicide prevention, the ‘Jeevan’ Suicide Prevention Centre orchestrated a comprehensive two-hour workshop at Arka Jain University. Attended by approximately 85 first-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students, the workshop aimed to equip young minds with essential skills to cope with stress and extend support to those in need.
The management of Arka Jain University extended a warm invitation to ‘Jeevan’, recognising the vital importance of addressing mental health concerns among students. The workshop featured distinguished speakers who expertly navigated through the intricate web of stress, anxiety, and depression.
Gurpreet Kaur Bhatia, the National Secretary of Befrienders India and Deputy Director of Outreach at Jeevan, delivered the first session titled ‘Understanding and Handling Stress’. She eloquently delved into the various stressors that impact individuals, emphasizing the significance of identifying both physical and behavioral changes as markers of stress and depression. Bhatia passionately highlighted the crucial role of awareness in recognizing symptoms and fostering a culture of mindfulness, which could ultimately save lives.
The second session, ‘Win over Stress Anxiety and Depression’, was conducted by Preeti Saini, a proficient Consultant Psychologist. Saini introduced an interactive element by involving the students in a Stress, Anxiety, and Depression tabulation exercise. This exercise enabled participants to introspect and evaluate their emotional responses to different situations, empowering them to grasp the nuances of their feelings and reactions.
Both sessions proved to be engaging and insightful, fostering an environment of open dialogue and learning. Notably, faculty members and program coordinators also graced the event, commending the workshop’s well-structured and interactive approach.
Students were made aware of the avenues of support available to them in times of emotional crisis. Jeevan volunteers stand ready to provide assistance over the phone at 9297777499/9297777500, offer face-to-face counseling sessions at the Center located at 25, Q Road, Bistupur, and accept queries through WhatsApp, text messages, or emails at the provided contact details: jeevanjamshedpur@gmail.com.
The workshop left an indelible impact on the participants, equipping them with essential tools to manage stress and extend a helping hand to those struggling with mental health challenges.
