Applications Open for July 2026 Ph.D. Admission Session
Jamshedpur, June 11: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has invited online applications for admission to 36 Ph.D. programmes for the July 2026 academic session. The information was shared by IGNOU Regional Director Dr. S. Mohanty with Dr. Tripura Jha, Coordinator of Learner Support Centre.
The online application process began on June 10 and will continue until July 1, 2026. Interested candidates can apply through IGNOU’s official website or the university’s admission portal.
The university is offering Ph.D. programmes in a wide range of disciplines, including Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science, Public Administration, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Life Sciences, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Computer Science, Education, Distance Education, Environmental Science, Fine Arts, Theatre Arts, Music, Dance, Social Work, Management, Commerce, Nutritional Sciences, Child Development, Home Science, Vocational Education, Development Studies, Gender and Development Studies, Translation Studies, French, Arabic, and Journalism & Mass Communication.
Admission Through Four Categories
Admissions will be conducted according to the UGC Regulations, 2022. Candidates can apply under four categories: UGC-NET with JRF, UGC-NET qualified for Assistant Professor and Ph.D., UGC-NET qualified for Ph.D. only, and University-level Entrance Test. An interview or viva-voce will be mandatory for all applicants. The application fee has been fixed at ₹2,000.
IGNOU offers both full-time and part-time Ph.D. programmes. Selected scholars will be required to complete their coursework at IGNOU Headquarters in New Delhi with a minimum attendance of 80 percent.
IGNOU Launches M.Sc. in Climate Change
In a significant academic initiative, IGNOU has launched a two-year M.Sc. programme in Climate Change, becoming the first open university in India to introduce a postgraduate course dedicated to the subject. The programme will cover climate science, climate risk, adaptation and mitigation strategies, environmental governance, sustainable development, climate policy, water resources, energy systems, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, disaster risk reduction, waste management, environmental law, and climate assessment tools.
Meanwhile, online admissions for various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, postgraduate diploma, and certificate programmes for the July 2026 session are open until July 15.
