Jamshedpur, June 11: A dispute arising out of a village council’s decision regarding the marriage of a young couple in Sarjamda under Parsudih police station area has escalated into a legal battle, with both sides lodging separate FIRs.
Police have arrested the accused youth and sent him to judicial custody following a complaint filed by the woman.
In her statement, she alleged that the youth had sexually exploited her for an extended period on the promise of marriage. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case, arrested the accused on Tuesday, conducted the survivor’s medical examination, and recorded her statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC.
Meanwhile, the accused youth’s father has also filed a complaint at Parsudih police station, accusing four identified villagers and several others of abusing, assaulting, and harassing his family during the dispute. Police have registered a separate case and initiated an investigation into the allegations.
According to reports, a village meeting was convened in Sarjamda on Monday afternoon to discuss the couple’s relationship. The gathering reportedly decided that the two should get married. However, the decision triggered a heated confrontation between the families, which soon spiralled into chaos. The situation became so tense that a police team responding to the scene allegedly faced resistance and was surrounded by villagers.
Police said investigations are underway into both cases, while additional monitoring has been put in place to maintain peace and prevent any further escalation in the area
