Jamshedpur: The Hindi Department of Graduate College has initiated an innovative approach to boost students’ self-confidence by encouraging girls to conduct classes. The initiative aims to help students overcome their fear of speaking and improve their academic engagement.
Rakesh Pandey, Head of the Hindi Department, stated that during regular classes, it was observed that many female students hesitated to answer questions despite knowing the answers. Their voices faltered due to a lack of confidence. To address this, the department introduced a step-by-step confidence-building exercise.
In the first phase, students were asked to read aloud while standing in front of their books, which yielded unexpectedly positive results. Encouraged by this progress, the next step involved having the girls teach topics they were comfortable with to their peers. The results were remarkable, as students gradually overcame their hesitation and began presenting topics with confidence.
Several students expressed their gratitude, stating that the initiative had eliminated their fear of speaking and improved their ability to express themselves publicly.
The Hindi Department also conducts weekly class tests, assessing students on recently covered syllabus portions. According to Rakesh Pandey, such experiments are designed to help students study effectively, build self-confidence, and retain the lessons taught in class.
