Jamshedpur, Feb 19: Superintendent of police (City), Jamshedpur, Subhash Chandra Jaat, Saturday claimed the alleged loot of 208 gram gold ornaments from the staff of a local hallmarking centre in Sakchi yesterday could just be a case of fraud. He said the real culprits who planned and executed the entire incident would soon be behind the bars.
Alleged looters, guised as police officers, reportedly looted gold ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh from Bapi and Shubham around 4.30 pm. Wearing police uniforms, they stopped the hallmark centre staff near Sakchi Central and asked them to show their bag on the pretext of checking it for cannabis and marijuana. The culprits decamped with the gold ornaments with ease despite the place being a crowded one. The whole incident has raised serious doubts about the veracity of statements given by the hallmarking centre staff to police, said an official.
Earlier, SP City had confirmed that the loot was reported in Sakchi. But after a day of investigation, he said the loot case was a highly suspected one.
Sources said Bapi and Shubham did not raise alarm during and after the incident. They later informed the hallmarking centre owner Rishabh Sarraf about the happening.
