Jamshedpur girl Amandeep creates new long jump record, wins gold

33rd East Zone Junior Athletics Championship

Jamshedpur, Sep 12: Steel City athlete Amandeep Kaur has set a new record at the ongoing 33rd East Zone Junior Athletics Championship being held at Patliputra Stadium in Patna. City’s long jumper Amandeep jumped 1.58 metres in women’s under 18 age group category to win gold medal and break the state meet record on Sunday.

Student of DBMS School, Amandeep has been training under coach Sanjeev Kumar at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Earlier, the record was held by Jamuna Tudu of East Singhbhum who jumped 1.55 metres in the 18th Inter Zone Athletics Championship held in Uttar Pradesh in 2006.

Amandeep has won several medals in national championships. On the other hand, Jharkhand athletes won 21 medals including 4 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze on day 2 of the 33rd East Zone Junior Athletics Championship

Sports coach Sanjeev Kumar congratulated the athletes.
