Jamshedpur fire services battles manpower shortage during festivity

Jamshedpur, October 12: Staff shortage of fire service department in Jamshedpur like earlier years will leave a big question mark on administration preparedness to tackle fire hazards during Durga puja festivity in city.

The fire service department of Jamshedpur at Golmuri has only 10 staff.

It is fortunate that Tata Steel Fire Department is deployed in the city.

In this regard, Fire Department officer Mangal Oraon said that it is mandatory for all puja committees to take clearance from the department. There will be no compromise on safety. About five hundred small and big licensed and unlicensed puja pandals are set up in the city.

Till now, applications for NOC have been received from about 40-45 puja committees. Apart from this, they are also to be given fire safety training.

He informed that preparations have been completed at the departmental level. Ten personnel are deployed here and all their leaves have been cancelled. The question is how the crowd of lakhs will be controlled with the help of just ten personnel. However, we wish that no untoward incident happens in the city during the puja, otherwise the administration and the fire department will be exposed.
