Jamshedpur, April 28: Deputy Labor Commissioner Rakesh Prasad has provided significant relief to 14 teachers of Baldwin High School in Kadma’s Farm area by disbursing gratuity amounting to Rs 23,81,817 on Saturday. The gesture comes after a prolonged legal battle initiated by the teachers, who were among 23 dismissed by the school management during and before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Efforts to secure gratuity for the affected teachers commenced when they reached out to Raj Kishore Prasad, Joint Secretary of Jharkhand State INTUC, seeking assistance. Despite negotiations with the Baldwin School management failing to yield results, the matter was escalated to the DLC court. Subsequently, the case was filed by the then DLC Rajesh Prasad in 2021.
Following hearings, Rajesh Prasad ruled in favor of the teachers, ordering the payment of gratuity. However, the school management contested the decision, appealing to the Labor Commissioner’s office in Ranchi in 2023. The Labor Commissioner, after reviewing the case, upheld the DLC’s ruling, mandating the gratuity payment. A copy of the order was forwarded to the DLC office in Jamshedpur.
