Jamshedpur/New Delhi, Nov 2: A 12-member delegation from the All India Ho Language Action Committee met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, demanding that the Ho language be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting the linguistic and cultural importance of Ho.

During the meeting, President Murmu conversed with the representatives in the Ho language and expressed her appreciation for their efforts. She stated, “A large population in the country speaks the Ho language and it deserves constitutional recognition. However, necessary state-level procedures must be completed before that.”

Committee president Ramray Munduiya informed that nearly 50 lakh people across India speak the Ho language. “Inclusion in the Eighth Schedule will not only strengthen the language but also open new avenues in education, administration and cultural development,” he said.

National working president Sura Biruli described the meeting as “highly encouraging” and said it had revived hope within the community that the language would soon receive constitutional status. Last year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also assured support for its inclusion. Both Jharkhand and Odisha governments have already recommended the proposal to the Centre. Notably, Ho is recognized as the second official language in Jharkhand.
