28 school participate in event hosted by Mount Litera Zee School
Jamshedpur, Aug 19: Mount Litera Zee School Jamshedpur hosted the JOGGA Chess Championship 2023-24 on the 18-19 August, bringing together the strategic minds from 28 schools to compete in the world of tactics, intellect and sportsmanship. The curtains came down on the much-anticipated Chess Championship 2023 with a grand closing ceremony held at Mount Litera Zee School on August 19th.
DAV Bistupur and JH Tarapore School dominated the proceedings winning most of the events.
In the junior girls category Sacred Heart Convent School with 16 points was declared the winner followed by JH Tarapore School (15.5 points) and Mount Litera Zee School (14 points).
DAV Public School Bistupur with 17 points won in the junior boys event. Church School, Beldih (14 points) was second while Motilal Nehru Public School (12.5 points) bagged third spot.
DAV Public School Bistupur was declared the winner with 16.5 points in Senior Girls category.

Sacred Heart Convent School (15.5 points) and JH Tarapore School (14.5 points) bagged second and third spot.
Senior boys’ trophy was won by DAV Public School Bistupur with 15.5 points. Mount Litera Zee School Jamshedpur scored 14 points to bag second place while Jusco School South Park with 13.5 points was in third place.
In the individual event Pragya Bhardwaj of JH Tarapore scored 7 points to win junior girls event. Ajuni Kaur Sacred Heart Convent was a close second.
Nikunj Agarwal of DAV Bistupur won in the junior boys’ category.
In the senior girls Sunidhi Singh of JH Tarapore bagged top spot in senior girls’ event. In senior boys category Harsh Kumar Jha of DAV Bistupur scored 7 points to be crowned the winner.
The closing ceremony was a fitting conclusion to a tournament that had seen players of all ages and skill levels engage in intense battles of wits. The event was graced by the chief guest NK Tiwari (General Secretary East Singhbhum District Chess Association), Initiative Director Lalita Sareen (also the Secretary of JOGGA) Volunteer teachers and students, Firoz Khan (Vice President JOGGA) respected arbiters and participants who had given their all to make the championship a resounding success.
The ceremony commenced with a heartwarming address from the school’s principal Kabita Agrawal, expressing gratitude to all the participants, teachers, and parents for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the championship. The principal also highlighted the importance of strategic thinking and sportsmanship that chess fosters among young minds.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the distribution of awards and trophies to the outstanding performers of the championship. Medals and certificates were presented to the top players in various categories, including individual excellence and team achievements. The excitement and pride on the faces of the winners were truly inspiring, serving as a testament to their hard work and determination.
Earlier, on August 18 the championship was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Anand Louis Menezes, Senior Manager at Tata Steel Sports Department.
Akshay Agrawal, Tournament Director, Chandan Prasad, Technical Director and the chief arbiter Jayant Kumar Bhuyan, and the other arbiters were present.
