Jamshedpur, March 29: Unidentified criminals reportedly opened fire at Om Prakash Singh, a land trader, at Govindpur on Tuesday. However, no one was hurt in the incident, police said.
Sources said the incident took place near Jojobera Shiv temple at Govindpur.
The alleged victim claimed the incident was the handiwork of one Sagar Kamat alias Bittu who had demanded extortion money of Rs 5 lakh from him. He said the accused had threatened to kill him in case he failed to pay him extortion money in a WhatsApp message sent on 24th March last.
When the firing took place, Om Prakash came out of the house, but could not see anyone outside. He intimated police about the incident.
In this connection, police have registered a case against Sagar Kamat for firing with the intention to kill.
Om Prakash Singh had earlier told police Sagar Kamat had assaulted him on 14th March last.
Cops said the entire incident may be linked to an old hostility between the victim and the accused.
