Jamshedpur road accident: Truck mows down one at Bistupur, injures another

Jamshedpur, March 29: A speeding mini truck knocked down two motorcycle-borne men near Tata Main Hospital roundabout on Tuesday.

One of the victims, identified as Sunil Kumar Bedi, 40, died at the scene while the other, Rohit Kumar, was critically injured in the incident, police said.

Sources said Rohit was taken to Tata Main Hospital where his condition was reportedly critical.

An irate mob gathered at the scene and thrashed the mini truck driver before handing him over to police. The driver was reportedly in an inebriated condition.

The mishap occurred when Bedi, a Shastrinagar resident, was passing by the roundabout with Rohit. The mini truck was at such a high speed that it knocked several vehicles on its way before running down Bedi and his companion. Bedi died at the scene.

Irked over the incident, the relatives of the victims and commuters created ruckus at the accident spot. The owners of vehicles damaged in the incident expressed indignation over the failure of traffic police to curb over-speeding and drunken driving.

The relatives of the victims also staged demonstration before Bistupur police station and demanding compensation for the victims.

Sources said Sunil Kumar Bedi was the owner of a car washing centre in Block No 1, Shastrinagar, Kadma. While Rohit runs a courier agency.
