Jamshedpur: Congress Launches Satirical ‘Melody’ Chocolate Protest Against Fuel Price Hike

Jamshedpur: In a unique and satirical protest against the relentless rise in petrol and diesel prices, the East Singhbhum District Congress Committee on Tuesday distributed ‘Melody’ chocolates to commuters while running a mass signature campaign near the Sakchi Roundabout fuel station.

Congress workers gathered at the busy intersection to mobilize public opinion against inflation, actively collecting signatures from local motorists and residents refueling their vehicles.

₹7 hike in 15 days

Speaking at the protest site, District Congress President Parvinder Singh stated that the local agitation follows direct instructions from the Jharkhand State Congress leadership to launch statewide protests.

Singh pointed out that petrol and diesel prices have shot up continuously over the last 15 days, burning a hole in consumers’ pockets with a steep increase of nearly ₹7 per litre during this brief period.

“This steady, daily increase places crushing financial pressure on ordinary citizens who are already struggling to survive amid rampant inflation,” Singh said. “While ordinary citizens fight to make ends meet, the Central Government completely fails to provide any relief. The Congress party will continue to hit the streets and amplify public anger through these awareness campaigns.”

The satirical ‘Melody’ connection

During the drive, party workers engaged directly with citizens at the fuel pumps, urging them to sign the protest ledger to oppose the price hikes.

The strategic distribution of Melody chocolates served as a sharp political jibe. Organizers noted that the chocolate brand became a satirical tool to mock recent high-profile political commentary surrounding the Prime Minister’s foreign diplomacy visits, turning the pop-culture meme into a grassroots protest weapon.

A large number of District Congress Committee office-bearers, grassroots party workers, and local residents joined the demonstration to log their protest against the escalating fuel rates.
