JDU threatens mass agitation over Jamshedpur crime wave and housing delays

Jamshedpur: Janata Dal (United) MLA Saryu Roy on Tuesday announced that the party will hit the streets and launch major agitations across the Kolhan division if the local administration fails to resolve rising crime rates and pending housing handovers.

Speaking at a massive JDU divisional meeting at the Lakshminath Goswami Temple auditorium in Bistupur, Roy declared that the party will fight for public causes “from the streets to the assembly.”

Roy expressed deep concern over a sudden spike in thefts, snatching incidents, and the illicit liquor trade across Jamshedpur. While he promised to engage directly with senior police and administrative officials to address these security lapses, he made it clear that JDU will not sit quietly if the situation fails to improve.

Red line drawn over Birsanagar PM Awas Yojana

The primary flashpoint for the threatened agitation centres on the Birsanagar Prime Minister Awas Yojana. Roy strongly criticized the government for delaying the distribution of keys to the rightful beneficiaries who are still waiting to move into their completed homes.

“If the administration does not hand over these houses immediately, JDU will launch a full-scale public agitation,” Roy warned. “If required, we will flood the streets with sit-ins and demonstrations to protect public interests and force accountability.”

To prepare for this confrontation, Roy urged party workers to intensify their mass outreach campaigns, document local grievances, and stand ready to mobilize residents.

Leadership calls for ward-level mobilization

Supporting the call for aggressive public action, JDU State President and Rajya Sabha MP Khiru Mahto ordered workers to expand the party’s organizational network down to the ward level ahead of upcoming elections.

“Step forward, challenge administrative wrongdoings, and lead the fight for the people’s problems,” Mahto told the crowd. “People will only connect with our movement when they see us fighting their battles on the ground.”

Former Jharkhand minister Sudha Choudhary also urged the cadre to unite and mirror the aggressive development and governance models implemented by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in neighbouring Bihar.

East Singhbhum District President Subodh Srivastava chaired the high-level strategy session, which brought together all district and block presidents, urban committee office-bearers, and station-in-charges from across the Kolhan division to map out the protest layout.
