Liechtenstein’s Hereditary Prince Alois was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday during his ongoing State Visit to India.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly received the visiting dignitary upon his arrival at the presidential residence.
Prince Alois arrived in the national capital from Vadodara, Gujarat, on Monday evening, where he was greeted by Union Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary at the airport.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a new chapter in India–Liechtenstein engagement that will provide renewed impetus to bilateral relations.
Prince Alois is accompanied by his wife, Princess Sofia, along with a high-level official and business delegation comprising top industry leaders. This marks his second visit to India in 2026, following his participation in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi earlier this February, alongside previous state visits in 2010 and 2018.
During his itinerary in New Delhi, Prince Alois will pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and engage in bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Later in the day, he is scheduled to hold comprehensive discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. The high-level dialogue will focus on strengthening cooperation across key sectors, including trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges, while exchanging perspectives on regional and global developments.
Additionally, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary will call on the Hereditary Prince. Later in the evening, Prince Alois will meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour.
Official sources highlighted that this visit holds special significance following the operationalisation of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement in 2025, paving the way for deeper economic ties and strategic partnerships in new areas of mutual interest.
