Jamshedpur businessmen protest JNAC encroachment removal in Bistupur, police resort to baton charge

Jamshedpur, April 12:  High tension prevailed as a team of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) led by City Manager Ravi Bharti moved in to clear encroachments on the Diagonal Road in Bistupur Trouble sparked when the JNAC team moved in to clear encroachment near Sonthalia Building including a staircase businessmen rose in protest and the accompanying police resorted to baton charge to quell the protest. Businessmen alleged misbehavior on the part of JNAC and police officials The baton charge resulted in injuries to businessmen and many among them were arrested.

The police used force to disperse the protesting businessmen. Many businessmen were detained during the altercation. Investigations into the incident were going on while a gathering of concerned businessmen had convened at the Bistupur police station.

Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee officer Arvind Tirkey said that in morning, local businessmen were duly notified to clear their encroachments. However, upon the team’s arrival in the evening, certain individuals amongst the business community became unruly, resulting in an altercation. Tirkey further stated that in response to the aggression faced by his team, mild force was utilized. Subsequently, several businessmen have been detained and turned over to law enforcement, with plans underway to file an FIR against them.

 

SCCI Condemns lathi charge on traders in Bistupur

Jamshedpur, April 12: The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and industry (SCCI) has strongly denounced the violent lathi charge on traders of Bistupur Diagonal Road by JNAC officers and employees during an encroachment removal drive. President Vijay Anand Moonka demanded an immediate investigation into the incident and urged action against the responsible officers.

Moonka emphasized that while the SCCI did not condone encroachment, the administration’s approach should have been more considerate. He criticized the lack of prior notice to shopkeepers and called for a fair process before encroachment removal.

SCCI officials, including General Secretary Manav Kedia, Vice President Anil Modi, Advocate Rajeev Agarwal, Puneet Kauntia, Abhishek Agarwal Goldie, Secretary Bharat Makani, Advocate Anshul Ringasia, Vinod Sharma, Suresh Sharma Lipu, and Treasurer Anil Ringasia, jointly condemned the recent lathi charge incident. They urged the administration to promptly identify and take action against the responsible officers.

 

Traders to protest by wearing black badges: Mukesh Mittal

Jamshedpur: Mukesh Mittal, former Vice President of the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries, has strongly condemned lathi charge against businessmen, deeming it unacceptable. Mittal said we are planning to lodge a formal protest by meeting with the Deputy Commissioner. He asserted that if necessary, protests will be organized. Additionally, in a show of solidarity, businessmen have resolved to wear black badges starting from tomorrow. They have further threatened to initiate a strike if appropriate action is not taken against the responsible officials.
