Jamshedpur: Young Indians (Yi) is set to bring laughter and support to a significant cause with their upcoming event, ‘Comedy for a Cause – Shame on Me’ featuring renowned stand-up comedian Sapan Verma. Scheduled for the 20th of April 2024 at Fasy Auditorium, Loyola School, this event promises an evening of entertainment for a noble purpose.

Sapan Verma, recognized as one of the country’s most beloved comedians, brings his wit and humor to the stage. As a stand-up comedian, writer, and co-founder of East India Comedy, Sapan’s contributions to the Indian comedy scene are unparalleled. He is the host, creator and executive producer of the Amazon Prime Original show, One Mic Stand – where he trained celebrities like Karan Johar, Shashi Tharoor, Sunny Leone and others to try stand-up comedy for the first time. The widely popular show went on to become the first Indian show to be remade in Germany.

Sapan was a judge and mentor on Amazon Prime’s Comicstaan Season 1 and Season 3 – a show that only added to his comedy repertoire. He made his foray into the global comedy scene by representing India at two of the world’s most revered comedy festivals – Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2023) and Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2017).

With over 2000 live shows in India, Sapan has also toured internationally across USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Dubai. A key highlight of his career was when he was one of the opening acts for Coldplay and Jay-Z for an audience of 80,000 at the Global Citizen Festival India in 2015. He recently made his debut in Bollywood as a comedy consultant on Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and a dialogue writer on Friday Night Plan, both of which released on Netflix in 2023. His first comedy special Obsessive Comedic Disorder is available on Amazon Prime Video. Previously, he has also scripted the IIFA Awards, Screen Awards and Filmfare Awards for celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Ayushmann Khurrana among others.

The event, ‘Comedy for a Cause,’ is not just about laughter; it’s about making a difference. Proceeds from the evening will support Yi Project MASOOM, an initiative dedicated to safeguarding children from sexual abuse. With activities focused on awareness, prevention, and support against child sexual abuse, Project MASOOM is a beacon of hope for vulnerable children. The Jamshedpur chapter of Young Indians has already reached over 100,000 children, parents, and volunteers, emphasizing their commitment to this crucial cause. Child sexual abuse remains a pressing issue in India, with statistics showing that 53.22% of children face some form of abuse. Through initiatives like Project MASOOM, Yi is dedicated to creating a safer environment for children nationwide.
