Ranchi: In a significant operation, the Investigation Branch of the Odisha Income Tax Department conducted raids on Wednesday at the establishments of liquor trading company Bouddistillery Private Limited (BDPL) and three other affiliated companies. Notably, BDPL has ties to Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu. The Income Tax officials initiated the raids at approximately 7:00 in the morning, targeting four locations in Odisha and two in Jharkhand.
The locations under scrutiny include the directors and premises of BDPL situated in Boudh, Raidih, Sambalpur, and Balangir districts of Odisha. Simultaneously, the raids extend to the company’s locations in Ranchi and Lohardaga in Jharkhand. The Income Tax Department took this action based on information indicating that the company might be evading taxes by concealing its actual business activities.
During the operation, cash and documents related to business activities were reportedly seized. BDPL Group, headquartered in Odisha, comprises four companies, namely BDPL, Baldev Sahu Infra Limited, Kwality Bottlers, and Kishore Prasad-Vijay Prasad Beverage Limited. While Baldev Sahu Infra Limited is involved in fly ash bricks, the remaining three companies operate in the liquor trade.
The Income Tax Department has expanded the scope of the raid to cover all companies within the BDPL group. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as authorities delve into the financial dealings of the entities involved.
