Jamshedpur: The flaws in the Mango Urban Water Supply Scheme are gradually coming to light, as highlighted by Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy. Following concerns raised by the Public Facility Committee, Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division, Adityapur, Sumit Kumar, has directed M/s Gemini Enterprises to install a 350 mm diameter valve at Tank Road Junction under the scheme’s restructuring work (Phase-2, Part-B).
In his letter, the Executive Engineer noted that after the inauguration of the 24-lakh-litre water tower at Prithvi Park on January 27 by MLA Saryu Roy, several areas, including Post Office Road, Chatai Colony, and Gurudwara Road, were supposed to receive adequate water supply. However, inspections revealed inadequate supply due to water flow diversion towards the Ulidih area, located at a higher elevation. To rectify this, Kumar instructed the contractor to install the valve at the junction immediately.
MLA Saryu Roy, in a statement, expressed concern over the project’s shortcomings. “As we continue our inspections, the flaws in the Mango drinking water project are becoming evident. This project was neglected for the past five years, and the people it was meant to benefit are still not receiving water. Had proper attention been given, these issues would not have arisen,” he said. Roy assured that he would engage with local authorities to resolve these issues and, if necessary, apply pressure for corrective action.
