HPV vaccination drive launched for girls at Sadar Hospital Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination program was officially launched at Sadar Hospital by Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, emphasizing that the vaccine was completely safe and crucial for girls aged 14 and above. The initiative, led by the Government of India, aimed to prevent cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.

District RCH Officer Dr. Ranjit Kumar Panda appealed to parents to vaccinate their daughters without hesitation. Dr. Mitali Ghosh highlighted the vaccine’s high effectiveness in reducing cervical cancer risks, while Dr. Mrityunjay Dhauria advised recipients to rest for 20–30 minutes after vaccination and avoid strenuous activity for the day. He also noted that cervical cancer screening was available under the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) program.

During the inauguration, three girls received the HPV vaccine, and vaccination certificates were distributed. Health officials, including Dr. Rajiv Lochan Mahato and Hakim Pradhan, were present to guide the beneficiaries. Authorities reiterated that the vaccine provided over 90% protection against cervical and other HPV-related cancers, underscoring its importance in safeguarding the health of adolescent girls.
