Dhanbad: In a heart-wrenching road accident under the Rajganj police station area of Dhanbad district, three members of a family died after their car ran into a truck on the six-lane road late Saturday night.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely mangled. The car driver sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary information, the family was travelling from Giridih district to Dhanbad for medical treatment. Near Rajganj, a truck moving ahead allegedly applied sudden brakes. The car following it lost balance and crashed directly into the rear of the truck. The collision triggered chaos at the spot, with passersby rushing to help.
In the tragic incident, 95-year-old Laliya Devi died on the spot. Her 57-year-old son Ramdev Yadav and 35-year-old granddaughter Geeta Devi were seriously injured and were being rushed to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad. However, both succumbed to their injuries on the way.
Police sources said the deceased hailed from Batlohiya village under Birni police station area of Giridih district, while Geeta Devi’s in-laws’ home is reported to be in Pachba village under Sariya police station area. Police said that Laliya Devi had suffered a leg injury earlier, for which the family was travelling to Dhanbad for treatment.
The car driver was grievously injured in the accident and has been admitted to a private hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical. Rajganj police reached the spot immediately after receiving information, initiated rescue operations, and sent all three bodies for post-mortem.
The truck that was involved in the accident has been seized. Preliminary investigation points towards negligence on the part of the truck driver, who allegedly applied sudden brakes. Police are conducting a detailed probe and questioning the truck driver.
Following the tragic accident, a wave of grief has swept through the victims’ family and village, as the loss of three members from the same family has left relatives and locals in deep shock.
