Jamshedpur, March 4 : In a major fire mishap, half-a-dozen makeshift shops were gutted in a fire at Chhayanagar in Bhuiyandih under Sitaramderapolice station area in the small hours today.Shops like repairing shop, snacks and pickle manufacturing were reduced ashes.
The fire broke out in the bamboo-thatched shop and within few minutes the blazing fire engulfed five more shops which were located in a row along the Bhuiyandih-Agrico Road.
A patrolling party of Sitaramderapolice station informed the government fire station at Golmuri. In the fire, four bikes were also gutted. According to shop-owners, properties worth over Rs 10 lakh were estimated to have been gutted in the fire.
The fire was brought under control after three fire tenders from the government fire station and one from the Tata Motors Ltd had been pressed into service.
Gopal Yadav, in-charge, Golmuri fire station, said that the cause of fire was not clear, but it might have been triggered due to a burning of cigeratte. “We are investigating the mishap. The shops which were gutted had no electric connection, so question of short circuit does not arise, causing the fire,” said Yadav.
