Adityapur Charts Kharkai River Revival Roadmap

Seraikela: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nitish Kumar Singh chaired a multi-stakeholder working group meeting at the district collectorate to formulate an Urban River Management Plan (URMP) for the Adityapur Municipal Corporation.

The initiative focuses primarily on the comprehensive rejuvenation of the Kharkai River. The proposed plan envisions restoring and strengthening all associated water bodies—including ponds, drains, and sewage treatment plants (STPs)—to curb pollution and revive the river’s ecological vitality.

Integrated Master Plan for Urban Development

During the meeting, officials conducted an integrated review of ongoing departmental schemes to build a robust master plan for the Adityapur urban area. The group deliberated on several critical infrastructure and environmental pillars:

• Water Infrastructure: Improving water supply systems, pond restoration, and resolving drainage bottlenecks.
• Waste Management: Developing strategies for the effective management of solid and liquid waste.
• Conservation: Reviving parks, protecting forest areas, and managing groundwater flow.
• Beautification: Transforming rivers, drains, and waterfronts into vibrant public and tourism spaces.

Focus on Waterlogging and Pollution

The Deputy Commissioner underscored the urgency of fixing the drainage system, noting that inadequate infrastructure leads to persistent waterlogging. He emphasized that curbing pollution and enhancing urban aesthetics would not only protect the environment but also boost the local economy and generate employment opportunities.

Directives for Seamless Coordination

To ensure the plan’s success, DC Singh directed all departments to provide updated data, maps, and technical inputs to the designated planning agency within the stipulated timeframe. He stressed that seamless inter-departmental coordination remains vital for effective implementation.

Concluding the meeting, the DC instructed all stakeholders to discharge their responsibilities actively and adhere strictly to the directives to ensure a successful execution of the river revival roadmap.
