Heatwave Tightens Grip Over Jharkhand: Daltonganj Hits 43°C, Jamshedpur Crosses 41°C

Jamshedpur: A severe heat spell has tightened its grip across Jharkhand, pushing temperatures well above seasonal norms and triggering early summer distress.

On Saturday, Daltonganj became the state’s hottest location, recording a blistering 43°C—nearly four degrees above normal and the highest maximum temperature this season. Jamshedpur followed closely as the mercury climbed to a sweltering 41.2°C, making it one of the hottest urban centers in the region. Seraikela also reeled under intense heat with temperatures exceeding 41°C, while Bokaro neared the 40°C mark. In contrast, Ranchi offered marginal relief at 38.8°C.

IMD Issues Heatwave Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for the coming days. Forecasters warn that isolated pockets in south-eastern and north-western Jharkhand may experience heatwave conditions on April 20 and 21.

Current meteorological features are intensifying the heat buildup. A north-south trough extends from East Uttar Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar, while an east-west trough stretches from East Uttar Pradesh to Manipur. These atmospheric conditions inhibit cloud formation and rainfall, trapping heat over the region.

Residents Struggle with Early Summer Surge

The rising temperatures have already disrupted daily life. Residents report that fans and coolers provide little relief during peak hours.

“Stepping out during the afternoon feels like walking into a furnace,” said Rakesh Singh, a Jamshedpur resident.

Sunita Devi from Daltonganj echoed these concerns, noting that the state is experiencing peak summer conditions much earlier than usual, raising fears of heat-related illnesses.

With no immediate relief in sight, authorities urge citizens to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions as the heatwave intensifies.
