Ghatshila, August 12: Ghatshila College celebrated its 64th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm on Monday. The event was inaugurated by Kolhan University’s Vice Chancellor and Commissioner of Kolhan Division, Chaibasa, Hari Kumar Keshari, along with Ghatshila MLA Ramdas Soren and other distinguished guests. The ceremony began with the lighting of 64 lamps and the offering of garlands and flowers to the portraits of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the college’s founders.
Thousands of students welcomed the guests from the main gate to the auditorium, playing traditional percussion instruments and performing tribal customary group dances. Vice Chancellor Hari Kumar Keshari was honored by College Principal Dr. RK Chaudhary and MLA Ramdas Soren with a dhoti, certificate, and memento reflecting Santali culture.

In his welcome speech, Principal Dr. RK Chaudhary expressed gratitude to the guests and highlighted the college’s progress. He acknowledged the immense support from public representatives, officials, social workers, intellectuals, and organizations like HCL-ICC and Tata Steel Foundation. The grand celebration, he noted, was a result of their collective efforts.
MLA Ramdas Soren, in his address, announced that a canteen building would soon be constructed in Ghatshila College from the MLA fund. He asked Principal Dr. RK Chaudhary to prepare a blueprint for the canteen, assuring that the necessary funds would be arranged for the construction.
Vice Chancellor Hari Kumar Keshari praised the grand event and emphasized that Ghatshila College was on an unstoppable path of progress. He expressed pride in the cooperation of the public representatives, officers, social workers, and intellectuals in the development of the college, congratulating Principal Dr. RK Chaudhary for his efforts.
The ceremony also honored the college’s founders, including Shyama Charan Murmu, Abhay Padho Mukherjee, Swami Purnananda Maharaj, Atul Krishna Bose, and others. Retired teachers and employees of the college were also recognized for their contributions.
A vibrant cultural program was presented, featuring tribal folk dances Dasai and Jhagad, in collaboration with the Tribal Cultural Society of Tata Steel. The college students also showcased a grand cultural performance. The event was conducted by Professor Indal Paswan, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh. A large number of students, teachers, and staff attended the celebration.
