Foundation stone of 1300-bed hostels laid at NIT Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Feb 18: The foundation stone for two hostels of 1,300 beds capacity at NIT-Jamshedpur was laid by Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi on Saturday. Singhbhum MP Geeta Koda was also present on this occasion along with the Mayor of Adityapur, Vinod Srivastava.

A 1,000-bed hostel will be built for boys, while a 300-bed facility will come up for girls, officials said. The hostels will be built at a cost of Rs 125 crore, they said.

The minister said that research in different fields can lead to development.

NIT-Jamshedpur director Karunesh Kumar Shukla said the institute needed a hostel for a long. He said such facilities will help the students to excel.

The Union Minister said the modern hostel would be of great help to the students. She said she was pleased to attend the programme. NIT Jamshedpur has achieved below 100 rank in academics, she said, adding further that the rank would improve further.

“PM Modi is working hard to make India a leader in the field of technical education by the year 2047 through National Education Policy 2020. Engineering and medical studies would be started in the country in 13 different languages. A roadmap is being prepared for the higher education of girls. Rs 94,000 crore has been allocated in this year’s Budget for higher education which is eight per cent more than last year’s allocation. Rs 4200 crore has been allocated for basic education and NITs have been allocated 10.5 per cent more funds,” said the Minister.

The Minister said the NIT should play a role in reducing the negative influence of brown sugar in the area. The Singhbhum MP said the hostel would solve the lodging problem of students coming here from far and wide.
