Jamshedpur, May 12: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy will be staging a dharna before Jamshedpur Collectorate to demand basic civic amenities for the residents of his constituency on 16th May. Earlier, he had planned to stage protest on 14th May, sources said.

Addressing media persons at his residential office in Bistupur on Thursday, Roy said he felt insulted and hurt due to the non-fulfillment of his demands for providing basic civic amenities to the people of various bastis of the city. The residents of the non-company command areas deserve the same amenities as their counterparts in the company areas, he said.

“The lease renewal conditions make it mandatory for Tata Steel to provide civic amenities to the people of Jamshedpur at municipal rates. Even in few lease areas, the company is not giving these facilities. The people are deprived of water and power supplies even today,” Roy said.

Roy said he had visited several localities of Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency with the officials of Tata Steel and erstwhile JUSCO (now Tata Steel UISL) to demand water and power connections, but to no avail. Giving assurance to an elected public representative and later not fulfilling the promise amounts to insult, said Roy.

The MLA further demanded an audit of Corporate Social Responsibility expenditures of Tata Steel by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
