With an eye on Assembly polls, BJP intensifies membership drive

Jamshedpur : As part of ‘mission 55’ with an aim to win at least 55 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly election, BJP has launched membership drive in the city.

“As part of the campaign, the party will try to connect with all the sections of society especially professionals like doctors, engineers, information technology experts, youth, women etc,” said a Bharatiya Janata Party leader. The decision was taken at a meeting of the office bearers of the state unit.

“We have to free the state from the politics of coalition and chalked out the ‘mission 55’ strategy,” Raghuvar Das, BJP national vice-president said.

Asking the workers to get prepared for the polls, the former Deputy Chief Minister said mineral-rich Jharkhand did not had a stable government since its creation in 2000, which resulted in the state lagging behind on development front.��

A BJP leader said the campaign is aimed at consolidating the lead gained by the party in the recently held general elections.

What prompted party to go for a membership drive was victory party got in those areas where it did not have a strong support base. The think tank of party feels that if BJP could get votes in those areas where
it does not have workers this means party has sympathisers there and they need to be tapped.

�Those areas have been identified and people have been asked to specially concentrate on those regions,� said a leader. He said BJP would focus on the booths where it got lead for the first time in the Lok Sabha polls. �If we can manage booths at the village level in those areas victory of the party in the next assembly elections is ensured,� he said.

Party district spokesperson Anil Modi said that people have seen regional parties and independent ruining the mandate. After the Lok Sabha results we are confident of notching up a clear majority in the state assembly and form a stable government in Jharkhand which would ensure development at the grass root level in the state.
The party leaders are eying to cash in on the NaMo wave prevalent amongst the electorates in state so that similar results are achieved in the assembly elections.

�After the Lok Sabha, we must work to maintain the tempo of victory. For this we have to ensure that workers and leaders spend more time with voters and interact with local and work to end their woes,� said a senior leader.

He said that the party has decided to target the voters with such hoardings in different strategic locations across six assembly segments Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Ghatshila, Baharagora, Potka and Jugsalai.
