Elephant kills 18-year-old girl

Jamshedpur: An 18-year-old girl was trampled to death by an elephant at Dumra Village under Gamharia block on late Monday night. The victim, Chintamani Sardar was the daughter of Dilip SIngh Munda.

The victim Chintamani along with her elder sister Lakhi Sardar had come out of the house for nature’s call when elephant came from behind and attacked her. Both the sister tried to enter the house and Lakhi managed to escape but Chintamani fell prey.

Elephant trampled her and she died on the spot. According to reports, a road near the house is connected to the forest and mountain is also nearby and through the road elephants enter the village. Villagers said that there was no electricity in the village from the evening. When elephant entered the village there was no power and elephants never come close to the house when there is electricity. According to reports, the victim Chintamani was the student of class 10 at Utkramit High School, Narendra Nagar, Kandra. After getting the information, village head representative Ram Hansda arrived at the spot and informed the same to Kandra Police and forest department officials. Kandra PS incharge Sachdev Singh, ranger Suresh Prasad and Dilip Mishra reached the village. The officials assured to provide compensation worth Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Ranger immediately provided Rs 25 thousand to the family members. Police took the body under its possession and sent to MGM Hospital for postmortem.
