Jamshedpur, Aug. 4 : A joint taskforce carried out a joint survey in Sakchi on main arteries and Sakchi roundabout and identified nearly 10 illegal hoardings. The joint task force comprising officials from local urban bodies (in this case, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee), Jusco (Tata Steel subsidiary), and representative from district public relation office carried out survey of 21 hoardings at Sakchi.
JNAC officials said that the drive is being carried out as part of city beautification plans and keeps the city skyline clear for commuters and visitors. The offenders will be prosecuted as per provision of the Defacement Act 1985. According to the 1985 act, offenders are liable for fines up to Rs 50,000 or imprisonment of six months.
�Besides posing danger to the public, these hoardings are hung without the permission or knowledge of civic body. The city had many huge hoardings of every sort a range of organisation, from residential associations to NGOs. Three years down the line, the number of flexes had only increased. The drive will continue until we get all the hoardings removed again,� said an official.
Even the local people are also upset over administration spending so much energy and money while carrying out such drives and the effect does not lasts even for a month. Incidentally as per the Defacement Act of 1985 offenders are liable for steep fines going up to Rs 50,000 or imprisonment for six months.
The administration is again gearing up to start major exercise against putting up of illegal hoardings and cutouts at public places by political leaders, social organisations and other private bodies.
�JNAC has around 25 hoarding slots in the city however we do not have idea about the number of legal hoardings of Tata Steel and police department in the city.
After getting the list from them we would be in a position to distinguish between illegal hoardings and legal ones which would make our task easier in removing the illegal ones and levying fines against offenders,� said an officer.
