Seraikela, Dec 19: A pregnant woman committed suicide by hanging self from the roof of her house at Gorhpur village under Kharsawan thana area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday night.
Relatives of the deceased woman, identified as Mani Bera (25) have accused her in-laws of murder due to dowry and have lodged a case in the local thana.
According to Shiva Pushti, husband of the deceased woman who was four month pregnant, when he opened the door he found his wife hanging from the roof and immediately informed the police who arrived nearly an hour later and took possession of the body and sent it for post mortem.
Mani Bera, a native of Baharagora had entered into wedlock during Covid-19 in June and Shiv Shankar Bera, brother of the deceased woman, had in his complaint said that in-laws were regularly taunting her sister for not bringing proper dowry and despite request not to torture her sister for dowry as she was pregnant they did not relent and continued to harass her and received information on Friday that her sister had committed suicide.
The deceased woman’s brother Shiv Shanker Bera and other relatives refused to take the body for last rites till police arrested the in-laws for murder over dowry. They took the body only after assurance from Kharsawan thana officer-in-charge Prakash Kumar Rajak that they would properly investigate into all aspects and arrest the in-laws.
