Jamshedpur, April 22: Founder Dr Mahavir Ram and Director Dr Jivraj Jain of Jeevan Sanstha, Jamshedpur have expressed deep concern over the disconcerting increase in suicide count in Jamshedpur. There were 35 suicides in the first three months of 2023. But going by an average,  till April this year, one suicide has been taking place almost every two days. “This is a matter of great concern. For preventing such fiascoes, deep contemplation is required,” said Dr Ram.

As such, the Jeevan Sanstha team held a discussion on the causes and remedial recourses needed to prevent suicides that were fearfully taking on epidemic proportions.

Dr Ram and Dr Jain stated that Jeevan had been conducting regular workshops in schools. They went on to inform that workshops were

also conducted during the Corona phases. The positive effects of these workshops were very much in evidence. However, they mentioned that the four suicides committed by children in the last three months were not related to stress or anxiety.

Dr Jain opined, “Suicide, if and when it attains epidemic proportions, reuires effective redressal and this is possible only when people from every section of society come forward to provide cooperation while considering it as their social responsibility. If even one life can be saved, it will be considered a very commendable work.”

Dr Ram added, “This will be a huge social act that requires no expenses. You just have to establish contact with Jeevan. Our emotional support service is completely free and confidential. It is guaranteed that you will definitely feel relaxed and positive after receiving emotional support from our volunteers.” Jeevan services are available 365 days between 10 am and 6 pm and these services are absolutely free of cost at the Bistupur office. The contact helpline nos are 9297777499 and 9297777500. Jeevan organization members have requested all citizens to participate in this ‘Mahayagna’ for suicide prevention. “If the behavior of any person around you gives the impression that he or she is mentally disturbed, please contact Jeevan Sanstha.”
