Jamshedpur: BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar observed ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ on Saturday to protest the 1975 Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
To mark the 51st anniversary of the Emergency, the party organized a seminar at the Manas Sabhagar inside Tulsi Bhawan, Bistupur, under the chairmanship of Mahanagar President Sanjeev Sinha.
Speakers at the seminar labelled the Emergency as the darkest chapter in Indian history and paid tribute to the people who sacrificed everything to protect the nation’s democratic fabric. Before the seminar commenced, party leaders also inaugurated a grand exhibition detailing the horrors of the Emergency.

State Vice President and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Pradeep Verma attended the event as the chief speaker. Other notable dignitaries included Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, State Vice President Abha Mahato, State Spokesperson Abhay Singh, former MLA Menka Sardar, District In-Charge Baban Gupta, and former District President Brahmadeo Narayan Sharma.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Pradeep Verma stated that the Emergency imposed on the midnight of June 25, 1975, remains the most stained chapter of Indian democracy. “The then-PM Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency on the nation solely to save her power. This decision crushed democratic values and imprisoned the soul of the Indian Constitution,” Dr. Verma said.
Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato emphasized the need to educate the younger generation about how the Congress choked democracy and trampled the Constitution.
“They turned the Parliament and the judiciary into mere puppets to save Indira Gandhi’s prime ministerial chair,” Mahato stated. “Today, the very leaders of the Congress party—which is guilty of murdering the Constitution—talk about saving democracy. This is nothing but absolute hypocrisy and deceit.” Adding to the sentiment, BJP spokesperson Abhay Singh compared the oppression of the Emergency to external colonial rule.
