Ranchi, October 25: Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni will play a key role in raising voter awareness for the forthcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. Chief Election Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar announced on Friday that Dhoni will be part of the Election Commission’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, aimed at increasing voter turnout. Dhoni’s image and appeal will be used to encourage more citizens to vote.
Speaking at a press conference at Nirvachan Sadan in Dhurwa, Kumar said, “The involvement of a well-known figure like Dhoni will boost the voter awareness campaign in the state.”
During his visit to Hazaribagh and Ramgarh Assembly constituencies, Kumar reviewed the SVEEP activities and identified some issues and instructing immediate corrective actions.
As the first phase of the elections approaches, the nomination process concluded on Friday. The scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for October 28, with the last date for withdrawal on October 30. So far, 16 FIRs have been filed for violations of the Model Code of Conduct, with the highest number (9) in Garhwa district.
Additionally, illegal goods and cash amounting to over ₹51.17 crore have been seized since the implementation of the code across the state.
