Eye donation facilitated at TMH Jamshedpur amidst challenges

Jamshedpur, October 25: The corneas of late Anju Chatterjee (78) were successfully retrieved today at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for eye donation, following her passing at her residence in Nildih.

Due to the unavailability of a doctor at the time of her death, her son, Amitav Chatterjee, who is an administrator at Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital (MTMH), made the decision to transport her body to TMH to ensure the eye donation could be completed promptly.

The cornea harvesting was performed by Dr. Rashi Verma, Dr. Anshuman, and TMH technician Draupadi. Parvinder Singh Kapoor from Roshni Jamshedpur accompanied the team, while Taru Gandhi, President of Roshni Jamshedpur, coordinated the transfer of the corneas to Kashyap Eye Hospital in Ranchi for transplantation.

The dedication of Mr. Chatterjee and the prompt action by the medical team were commended, ensuring that the donor’s wish for eye donation was fulfilled in time.
