Dhanbad traders seek arms licenses amidst rising security concerns

Over 300 businessmen and leaders apply for arms licenses in a ten-month period

Twenty-nine applicants seek arms licenses at the Collectorate in a single week

Dhanbad: The escalating terror of criminal gangs led by Prince Khan and Aman Singh in the Koyalanchal region has stirred deep apprehension among local businessmen. The atmosphere in Dhanbad has become tense, as the business community no longer feels secure and is reluctant to rely solely on law enforcement for protection. Consequently, businessmen, politicians, and others are taking measures to safeguard themselves, including applying for arms licenses from the administration.

From January 1 to November 4, 2023, a total of 308 individuals, including businessmen and leaders, have submitted applications for arms licenses. Many applicants have already received their licenses. The recent incident on October 28, where assailants entered the Car Center establishment in Bankmod and shot businessman Deepak Aggarwal, triggered a surge in applications, with 29 individuals applying for arms licenses in response to the heightened fear of criminal activities. It has become a daily occurrence for four to five people to submit license applications to the general branch.

A notable development is that, following the directives of the Home Department, businessmen are now permitted to possess two firearms with a single license. This is a departure from the previous rules, and those who already hold two weapons with two licenses are advised to consolidate them to avoid future complications. Failure to do so may result in issues, including renewal fees. To apply for a new arms license, individuals must fill out the necessary forms from authorized vendors, accompanied by an arms training certificate, an undertaking affidavit, a medical certificate, IT returns, PAN cards, and Aadhar cards. Following police verification, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) will issue the license. In the past week, several businessmen from areas such as Bankmod, Purana Bazaar, Hirapur, and others have submitted arms license applications, reflecting the growing concerns about their safety and security.
